KALDEWEI activates further levers for environmental protection

KALDEWEI, Ahlen, August 2021 - KALDEWEI is the industry leader when it comes to steel enamel in the bathroom. For more than 100 years, the company has constantly pursued the idea of pushing the limits of what is possible and gradually extending them in the direction of progress. Sustainability is deeply anchored in the DNA of the company; product lines made of plastics and polymer concrete are not used. Due to the clearly visible effects of climate change, environmental protection is being increasingly demanded by people. The industry bears a great responsibility here. KALDEWEI has committed itself to doing justice to future generations and is taking measures to align the company with sustainability in accordance with the requirements of the Paris Climate Protection Agreement. Sustainability and luxury complement each other in the form of durable materials. A good future needs responsibility in the here and now.

KALDEWEI has been committed to the environment for many years. With increasing ambition, the company is promoting the idea of climate neutrality and the protection of our living spaces. For example, by means of our engagement with the WWF to set up a functioning recycling system in Vietnam. The investment from KALDEWEI made the project possible in the first place.

A few months ago, KALDEWEI was the first company in the sanitary industry to sign the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). SBTi supports companies with the help of scientifically ascertained and well-founded methods in setting and reducing their CO2emission targets. KALDEWEI is one of almost 1,700 global companies that have committed to reducing their CO2 emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement.
In addition, a KALDEWEI working group is working with the newly founded online platform Madaster, which will in future issue a kind of 'identity card' for buildings. This creates transparency with regard to the materials and raw materials used, and buildings can be assessed in terms of their value and their potential for circularity over their entire life cycle.

Franz KALDEWEI has taken the next step and will plant 54,000 deciduous trees in North Rhine-Westphalia. With measures like these, the company wants to bridge the time until it has reached the zero-emission target that it has set itself.

“The 54,000 newly planted trees can absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and purify the air and water because of their very existence. Of course we know that this activity is a temporary means to bridge the time to zero emissions, but what is the alternative? Doing nothing is out of the question for us”, says the owner Franz KALDEWEI. “With this decision, which we have notarised, we are helping to restore more than six hectares of wasteland. Many people will benefit from this. We will do our part to protect the climate and consistently try always to take a few extra steps”.
